A Community Exhibition Celebrating Memory, Creativity and Connection
The Art of Remembrance is a unique community art exhibition presented by Whitestone Funerals in partnership with the North Otago Art Society (NOAS). Inspired by the theme of Remembrance, artists are invited to create an original artwork that reflects memory, family traditions, love, loss, legacy, hope, celebration of life, or any personal interpretation of what remembrance means to them. More than an exhibition, The Art of Remembrance is an opportunity for our community to come together through creativity, storytelling, and shared experiences while supporting the future of local arts in the Waitaki region.
Supporting Local Artists
The Art of Remembrance is a fundraiser for the North Otago Art Society, with proceeds helping to support exhibitions, creative initiatives, workshops, and opportunities for local artists. By participating as an artist, purchasing artwork, or attending the exhibition, you'll be contributing to the growth and sustainability of North Otago's vibrant arts community.
How to Enter
1. Collect Your Exhibition Disc
Pick up a prepared wooden disc from either: Whitestone Funerals or North Otago Art Society (NOAS)
2. Create Your Artwork
Transform the disc into an original artwork inspired by the theme "Remembrance".
The theme is intentionally broad and may explore:
Memory
Family traditions
Love
Loss
Legacy
Hope
Celebration of life
Personal stories & connection
3. Submit Your Artwork
Completed artworks should be delivered to:
Custom House Gallery, or Whitestone Funerals by Sunday 21 November

NOAS Members: Free
Non-members: $10

First Prize $300
Second Prize $200
Third Prize $100
People's Choice Award $100
The People's Choice Award will be determined by public voting throughout the exhibition.
Exhibition Schedule
25 November The exhibition opens at Whitestone Funerals.
26 November Featured as part of the annual Remembrance Service.
30 November The exhibition relocates to the North Otago Art Society Gallery.
About the Exhibition
The Art of Remembrance encourages artists to explore the stories, memories, and experiences that shape our lives. Whether inspired by a loved one, a treasured memory, family traditions, cultural heritage, moments of joy, or reflections on loss and healing, each artwork contributes to a collective story told through creativity.
Visitors will experience a diverse range of artistic styles and interpretations, showcasing the depth of talent across our region while celebrating the connections that unite our community.
Artwork Sales & Collection
Artwork remains under the care of Whitestone Funerals and the North Otago Art Society during the exhibition period. All proceeds will be given to the North Otago Art Society, unsold artwork will be returned to artists after six months.
Artists retain copyright of their work. By entering, artists grant permission for Whitestone Funerals and the North Otago Art Society to photograph and reproduce images of submitted artwork for promotional and exhibition purposes.
